Start everything from math. Math is a field where everything is coded. Through math, we try to grasp every single object in the world, including genetics, dendrology, and breeding. As human being, our task is just keep trying, as we given brain to think and learn and not give up.
My task to assist you through hardship in learning the subject.

First, let refresh our math from high school
Dear Students,
Math is inseparable from our everyday life and it also act a fundamental knowledge you should have in university. Before we can utilize math in modern way like in statistics and machine learning, let us refresh our brain to get used to important math concept, Don’t worry, it is not much. It will only covers linear algebra, understanding matrix and a bit of calculus. I will try my best to guide you through by providing slides and practices. further please read the book I recommend to you in each of the lecture page below.
Linear algebra is the study of vectors, matrices, and equations that describe relationships.
Matrix operation is fundamentals after linear algebra since working in matrices is easier for us, and we work with it a lot right ? (Excel sheets)
Calculus will be very much useful in analysis, while learning it you probably not knowing what actually this subject does so lets dive in.
Now, let's step into statistic!
Dear Students,
Statistics is all around us. Statistics helps us make sense of uncertainty in the real world. It is not only numbers, but also a way of thinking and making decisions based on data. We will explore basic concepts of statistics that are essential for your study and research—such as probability distributions, hypothesis testing, descriptive statistic, regression and classification problem. I will also suggest useful books and references for you to read after each lecture.
Probability distribution
In the universe, how things are distributed is follow a certain probability distribution. i.e. how likely we found a tree that height 1-3 m?
Hypothesis testing
We often get question, whether a group of trees is higher than another, we can use hypothesis testing to say it in quantitative way tho!
Descriptive statistic
Often, we are asked to descriptively tell how the height of a group of tree varies? how big is the variation, and how was the mode, mean and the median?
Regression
In many cases, we would like to know how a trait is associated in order to make the impossible possible. i.e predicting the volume of a tree by just measure it diameter by examining their relationship and eventually predict it.
Classification
In many other cases too, we are asked to help classify thing, i.e classifying certain taxon of plant to give deeper understanding on how it relates each other.
Right up coming, plant biology
Dear students,
This is the heart of forestry lies. We deal with very specific type of plant that will benefit human, specially in forestry point of view. Forestry, is one of biology branch that narrowly focus on woody plant. Since we less likely to put rice, maize, and cassava here, then we need to understand the root of this branch, Biology. I am sure you are exicted to review your highschool lesson, but if not dont worry this is for the first timer too!
Plant Biology
We will review your comprehension about biology with narrow view on plant, that is useful for your understanding on what we work on.
Plant systematic
In our lab, plant systematic will study on how plant is described, identified and classified based on the data availability on our hand to throw a light in plant science.
Genome
The advancement of technology allows us to see inside the molecular world, the ultimate cause why this world possess it diversity and we will try to dissect it in a bit sized lesson.
